Hello everyone!

As my watchers may have noticed there have not been a lot of bird photographs lately. That is because I have not stopped by the Raptor Rehabilitation Center here where I live over the summer. They do great work at rehabilitating injured raptors and getting them back out into nature where they belong and taking in those that cannot live in the wild anymore. When I went to the center this weekend I found out that two of the resident birds had died.

Liberty the male bald eagle died of old age after living at the center for nearly two decades. He was not as photogenic as his partner Hali preferring to stay in the back of the pen. But if I have my choice, I will die of old age too... not a bad way to go.

And Luke, the American Kestrel. Now unfortunately Luke did not die from 'natural causes' per se... as it turns out, Luke and Lurch were digging a hole together under the wall that separated their enclosures. Now Lurch would not have been a problem for Luke since he is a vulture and prefers carrion, is rather slow and lumbering and has a bad wing. The problem came about that Luke was a imprint and Lurch shares his enclosure with two Swainson's Hawks and a Red Tailed Hawk... not pretty...

But on a more positive note, the center did get a nice new photogenic resident I hope to be getting better photos of sooner or later, a barn owl. I did get some of him this time, but I am not wholly impressed with my first effort to get photos of him...

Here is another set of photos from my anniversary vacation. We drove up through Estes Park and I took some scenery photos. I like them, but I think I am better at animal photos.

For my anniversary my wife and I decided to go stay at The Stanley Hotel. If you have never heard of The Stanley Hotel then maybe you have heard of the movie, The Shining. Stephen King was inspired to write The Shining after staying a single night at The Stanley Hotel. The Stanley is said to be very very haunted...

Oh, and you may also recognize the hotel from the movie Dumb and Dumber... it is said that Jim Carey was only able to spend a very short amount of time in the same room as Stephen King before running out of the hotel and having his stuff packed up for him never to return to the hotel... LoL

Hey,

As I say in my intro I don't fav a lot of art. The art I do fav must connect to me, call out to me in some way or another... but I do appreciate allot of art. To that end, I end up feeling like I don't give artists that I like and respect enough recognition, especially when they fav my photos. So I don't know how often I will do it, but I feel like putting some of these people into my journal to recognize that their art has impressed me personally.

As much as a love animal photography, urban photography is something of its own being... it can be beautiful & ugly, majestic and tragic... :iconpeterjdejesus: has a wonderful collection of urban photography to boggle the eyes and mind...

The next artist has favored many of my photos and I know I have favored one of his, which is unbalanced and seemingly unfair since his work is so wonderful. :iconsilvervulpine:
